Home Loans & Finance for Veterinarians

Specialist lenders who recognise veterinarians even though you’re not AHPRA-registered.

Vets are an awkward fit for the standard medico lender programs because you sit under state Veterinary Surgeons Boards, not AHPRA. Most lenders’ ‘medical professional’ programs were built around AHPRA registration and quietly exclude veterinarians by default. The good news: a small number of lenders (notably BOQ Specialist and Macquarie) have specifically built vet-inclusive programs with LMI waivers up to 90% LVR. We know which ones and we know how to position vet income, including practice ownership, mixed clinical and emergency work, and locum vet billing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are vets included in medical-pro home loan programs?

Some lenders include vets, others don’t. BOQ Specialist and Macquarie have vet-specific programs with LMI waivers up to 90% LVR. Most of the Big 4 don’t include vets in their standard medical-pro tiers. We know which is which.

Practice ownership generally increases your borrowing power (higher income) but requires more sophisticated income assessment (BAS, financials, distributions). We work with lenders who properly read vet practice financials.

Yes. Locum vet income is treated like locum doctor income — most lenders penalise the variability, but the right specialist lender will credit it at full value with the right placement history.

Generally treated under the same vet program, but penalty rates and after-hours billing can push borrowing capacity significantly higher with the right lender.

Yes — practice purchase, partner buy-in, equipment finance, and fit-out are all available. See our /loans/business-lending/ page.
